Counterpoint Research has put up a list of the top 10 smartphone models of 2021 based on market share.
Due to intense competition from a bunch of brands, the top 10 best-selling smartphone models only contribute to 19% of the total number for 2021. Still, that’s better versus 2020’s 16%.
The top 10 devices only came from three brands, with Apple dominating the list by having 7 entries, Xiaomi with two, and Samsung with one.
Apple had quite a year as it was able to populate all the top 5 spots. There’s the iPhone 12, 12 Pro Max, iPhone 13, 12 Pro, and iPhone 11 — on the right order. While they did dominate, each model only amount to 2.9% to 2% of the total market share.
The iPhone 12 series topped the list due to loyal iOS users finally upgrading to 5G. What’s interesting is, despite only being released later that year, the iPhone 13 managed to take the third spot.
Samsung managed to take the sixth spot thanks to the strong demand for the Galaxy A12, even in markets like Western Europe and North and Latin America.
The Xiaomi Redmi 9A and Redmi 9, which came from the tried-and-trusted line, got into the top 10 list due to their good performance in India, China, and the Asia Pacific. In fact, the duo amounts to 22% of the company’s total smartphone sales.
