Canalys released its latest report showing the state of smartphone shipments in China last year, 2024. The country now has a new market leader, with the whole industry shipping 4% more units than the year before.

For the whole of 2024, smartphone brands shipped 285 million units. 17% of that, or 49.3 million units, is from the new market leader, vivo. We then have HUAWEI, who is bouncing back by taking the second spot with 46 million (16%) units shipped.

Apple is standing strong and broke the pattern. It’s sandwiched by Chinese brands at the third spot with 42.9 million units (15%).

OPPO/OnePlus comes close at 42.7 million units (15%) and HONOR at the fifth spot at 42.2 million (15%).

But for the holiday season (Q4 2024), Apple dominated with 13.1 million units (17%). vivo and HUAWEI drops on the second and third spots, respectively. Xiaomi made it to the top fourth spot, with OPPO/OnePlus capping the list.

Analysts from Canalys expect that the Chinese smartphone market will grow in 2025 to 290 million units.
