Meta has introduced a couple of new features to Facebook Messenger, with one a much-welcome addition to privacy and the other a much-awaited feature for typo-texters.

The Facebook Messenger update, which will roll out gradually to consumers, will now enable end-to-end encryption by default. This means that only you and the recipient will see all personal messages and calls on Messenger and Facebook.

Another big and much-awaited feature is the ability to edit messages, which should be a big help to many typo-texters out there. But, there’s a catch: you can only edit the message within 15 minutes after sending it.

We also like the “hide read receipt” feature so you can read long messages without the sender knowing you’ve seen them. Disappearing messages are also coming.

Messenger will also allow you to listen to voice messages at 1.5x or 2x speeds — quite handy if you have a friend who likes to beat around the bush when telling a story.

Lastly, Meta is finally increasing the quality of photos and videos sent to Messenger, albeit it will first arrive to a small number of users before a global rollout.

Again, some of these features have already been rolled out to select users. If you don’t see it yet, you might have to wait a little longer.
