X, previously known as Twitter, is contemplating a significant shift towards a subscription-based model for its users. Elon Musk, during a conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, discussed the plan to transform X into a paid platform to address the prevalent issue of bot activity.
Although he did not disclose the subscription fee or how it would differ from the existing Premium plan, Musk emphasized the necessity of discouraging bot operators by imposing a financial barrier and imposing restrictions on the creation of fake accounts. He adds that a “small monthly payment” could mostly likely end the armies of bots once and for all.

The exact timeline for implementing the cheaper subscription-based model for all X users remains uncertain at the moment. The tech billionaire is known for prematurely announcing new features that may or may not happen, so it’s important to wait for official confirmation.
According to Musk’s disclosed data with Netanyahu, X currently boasts 550 million monthly users that post tweets of up to 200 million every day. If X were to become a subscription-only service, it is inevitable that the user count would decline as people seek alternative platforms.
