Looking for Mr. or Ms. Right? Getting involved in sports could make a difference.
Dating app Bumble recently conducted a study in collaboration with market research firm Milieu Insight and found that 43 percent of Filipino singles take interest in sports into account as a factor when searching for a romantic partner. This implies that individuals who are active in or appreciate sports can have a significant lead in the dating scene.
Based on survey results from respondents nationwide, the study indicates that the desire for a sports-oriented partner is particularly strong among Filipino men. Thirty percent of men find it a “deal breaker” if their partner does not share their interest in sports, compared to 21 percent of women.

At 49 percent, men also find it essential to find someone with shared interest in sports, while 38 percent of women hold the same view. Across generations, 61 percent of millennials and 58 percent of Gen Z survey respondents have the same preference. In both age groups, 60 percent expressed that attending sporting events is an enjoyable dating activity.
The survey was conducted online from June 8 to June 18, 2024, with 929 respondents who are single Filipinos between the ages of 18 and 43 and encompass both LGBTQ+ and non-LGBTQ+ individuals.
Last year, a different study found that majority of Filipinos consider a person’s photo paramount when looking for a probable partner. In a similar vein, Tinder recently launched an AI-powered ‘Photo Selector’ tool to help users pick their best profile.
