Android might dominate the global mobile platform, but for teenagers, the iPhone is still king.
American investment bank Piper Sandler recently conducted a study that surveyed a sample of 9,193 teenagers from 49 states across the US, with an average age of 15.7 years. The study revealed that a staggering 87 percent of American teenagers currently own an iPhone.
When asked about their future preferences, 88 percent of the surveyed teenagers said they plan to stick to iPhones for their next phone. This semi-annual survey revealed consistent results with the previous year. Back in 2013, only 55 percent of teenagers owned iPhones while 24 percent owned an Android.

The continued allure of iPhones among teenagers is echoed in the broader market, with the iPhone 14 reigning as the best-selling smartphone in Q2 2023 according to Counterpoint Research. This model quickly rose to prominence since its release in Q3 2022, reflecting a longstanding trend where vanilla iPhone models typically experience robust sales.
In more recent news, Apple’s preorders for the iPhone 15 range tell a similar story. Within mere minutes, the iPhone 15 Pro Max was selling out, pushing delivery dates back to November.
The survey offered other insights into teen preferences. TikTok leads as the favorite social platform, followed by Snap and Instagram. Nike reigns supreme in both clothing and footwear categories. And when it comes to online shopping, 55 percent of the teens picked Amazon as their go-to site.
