ABS-CBN Corporation, one of the biggest media groups in the Philippines, has won a lawsuit against KissAsian, an alleged pirate site.
The case was filled in the Florida court earlier this year. ABS-CBN, the complainant, is suing KissAsian of streaming their copyrighted contents and using their trademarks, without any permission.
As per ABS-CBN, they lost quite a lot of revenue because of this. On the other hand, KissAsian is earning profit from advertisers due to the increasing traffic it gets from the streamers.
The alleged pirate website also streams TV shows from different countries like South Korea, China, and Japan.
Since KissAsian refused to take part in the process, ABS-CBN won the case by “Default Judgement”. Hence, as per ABS-CBN’s request, the court of Florida ordered KissAsian to pay ABS-CBN $1,000,000 for trademark damages and $810,000 for copyright infringement — that’s a total of a whopping USD1.8M or approximately Php92,000,000.
