While the slab and slate form factors dominate the market these days, from time to time we see an occasional smartphone announcement with a different look and style. Here’s one: a rugged phone with a brick form factor from Chinese manufacturer AGM Mobile.
The company revealed yesterday that it has an upcoming phone that features a physical keypad and an external antenna. With its bulky appearance (and presumably heavy body), this phone certainly has some similarities with the Motorola DynaTAC back in the 1980s.

While AGM Mobile hasn’t disclosed any specs, as a rugged device this phone is expected to be tough and capable for use in extreme environments. We can assume there’ll be some water and dust resistance, as well as shock protection.
The screen does show the WeChat and TikTok apps, along with a camera app and seemingly a music player, so it’s fairly safe to assume this phone is also capable of doing basic smartphone tasks.
