It looks like the fragmentation issue on Android devices is slowly being fixed as recent data shows that Android 13, the latest Android version before the current Android 14, is the most widely-used OS version around the world.

One of the reasons behind the said fragmentation is how a lot of Android manufacturers are falling short in handling software updates. Chances are, the Android 13-powered phone you bought this year will no longer receive the next big update, or worse, the one you just bought still rocks the Android 12 version or older.

Thankfully, Android manufacturers are now working hard to fix that. We’re seeing a couple of brands extending their software support by up to 5-7 years, which is great for a smartphone’s longevity.

Moreover, Google’s latest Android version distribution statistics show promising improvement. The data shows that Android 13 is now the most popular version. It has improved its market share from 15% to 22.4% since last May — quite an impressive achievement in just 5 months.

Second to the list is Android 12 as from 16.3%, only 15.8% of devices are now using it since some of them have already been upgraded. Android 11 is still widely popular, but most of them have already been upgraded to the popular version since devices using it dropped from 23.1% to 21.6%. You can check the full data below.
