Last month, Sony has introduced the FX30, the most affordable member of its cinema line of cameras. Now, this pro-shooter has made its way to the Philippines.

Why affordable? Because the new Sony FX30 now uses a smaller APS-C sensor instead of its brothers’ larger full-frame. What we have here is a 20.1-megapixel EXMOR R CMOS APS-C sensor that sits in a cinema-centric Super 35 format.

This sensor also boasts dual base ISO of 800 and 2500 and has 14+ stops of dynamic range.

Made for shooting professional videos, it can record 4K clips that have been supersampled from its 6K sensor. These videos can be in 24p, 30p, and 60p. It can also do 4K 120p slow-motion with a 1.62x crop.

10-bit video recording is also available in 4:2:2 via H.265 or H.264. RAW output can be done via an HDMI port to an external Atmos Ninja V+ recorder. A USB port allows you to connect it to a computer to use as a webcam.

Just like its processors, the FX30 has Cine EI, Cine EI Quick, and Flexible ISO modes for S-Log3 thanks to its Log video modes. Color post-processing is made easy using the Sony S-Cinetone profile that produces natural colors.

Other than the sensor, the cheaper FX30 is essentially the same as the more expensive FX3. It uses the same body, button and control layout optimized for video shooting, and the same threaded accessory mounts.

It also has dual memory card slots that can accommodate SDXC/SDHC and CFexpress Type A cards.

The Sony FX30 has a price of Php119,999 in the Philippines. Pay Php139,999 and get it with the handle. You can pre-order the camera from September 29 to October 28 to get a free Bellroy Bag worth Php5,200. It will be available in Sony Centre stores, Henry’s Professional, Mayer’s, Camerahaus, and other camera stores across the Philippines.
