Local tech brand Cherry Mobile is finally launching its very first 5G-enabled smartphone.

In an invitation sent to the media, Cherry Mobile confirmed the online press launch for its first 5G phone, which will happen on April 29, 2022. Since the event is exclusive to the media, the official market release may not happen until a couple of days or weeks later.

Still, this is a huge step for the Filipino tech company, and it goes without saying that this has been a long time coming.

If you remember, the folks from MediaTek already confirmed way back in 2020 that they will be powering Cherry Mobile’s upcoming 5G phone. Almost two years later, the long-anticipated device is finally coming.

No official specs and features have been released yet. However, the invite and the previous confirmation from MediaTek give a hint.

For one, since it’s a MediaTek-powered 5G smartphone, it may be powered by a Dimensity 700 series processor. If we’re lucky, it could be in the Dimensity 800 line or even the 900 series.

The invite also shows an outline of the device, showing that it will have a punch-hole for the selfie camera. It looks like it will also have an in-display fingerprint scanner, which means that it may also have an in-display fingerprint scanner.

We’ll share all the details we can about the first Cherry Mobile 5G device once they are available, so stay tuned for that.
