After over a decade of selling the streaming dongles, Google has finally decided to end production of Chromecasts.
This means that Chromecast devices will only be available “while supplies last.” So, if you’re planning on purchasing one, you should get one as soon as possible.
Updates will still be provided for newer devices, although specifics are not given. The latest addition to the Chromecast lineup is the Chromecast with Google TV, which was released in 2022.
Google built Chromecast back in 2013 to embed its technology in millions of TVs, turning the then ‘dumb’ TVs into smart TVs. But with recent technology advancements in the field, Google recognizes the need for a change.

Instead of the Chromecast, Google will introduce the new Google TV Streamer, set to debut on September 24th. The set-top box offers upgrades over the Chromecast with Google TV, including a 22 percent faster processor and integration with Matter and Thread.
The Google TV Streamer, priced at $99.99, is a significant improvement over the Chromecast and has the potential to compete with the more expensive Apple TV 4K. It’s unfortunate that Google is discontinuing its dongle. At $29.99, the Chromecast with Google TV provides affordable access to a comprehensive streaming hub.
