HUAWEI has announced the direct successor to the Mate X3, the new Mate X5, offering a few fine refinements resulting in a better foldable phone.
The new HUAWEI Mate X5 has the same LTPO OLED displays. The foldable one is a 7.85-inch panel with a 2224 x 2496 pixel resolution while the cover one is a good 6.4-inch screen with a 2504 x 1080 pixel resolution and has Kunlun Glass.
Like the Mate 60 series, HUAWEI is still mum about the chipset used on this one. But, it’s also rumored to be the Kirin 9000s, a 5G-equipped 7nm chip.
The processor might be unknown, but they did say that it will have up to 16GB of RAM and 1TB of expandable storage.
One cool refinement it has is the new antenna design. Called the HUAWEI Lingxi, the antennas are positioned in different areas of the device and uses an AI algorithm to help decide which antenna is best to use at a particular time for optimal signal reception.
HUAWEI also made some tweaks to the cameras, albeit still pretty much the same. There’s a 50-megapixel main shooter, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide, and a 12-megapixel 5x zoom periscope lens on the back. Each display will get its own 8-megapixel selfie camera.
The company also threw in a bigger 5,060mAh battery, with 66W wired, 50W wireless, and 7.5W reverse wireless charging.
It also managed to get an IPX8 rating for being water resistant and another key addition, the two-way satellite messaging via BeiDou.
The HUAWEI Mate X5’s official price is yet to be unveiled but is now up for reservations in China with a deposit of CNY1,000 (~Php7,700).
