MediaTek recently announced a brand new SoC, the MT8127, which comes paired with the powerful Mali 450MP4 GPU. The MediaTek MT8127 is an upgrade over the MT8125 and features a quad core Cortex A7 CPU clocked at 1.5GHz.

The SoC supports up to 13mp cameras, 1080p video recording and playback, WiFi, Bluetooth 4.0 and Miravision HEVC. Unfortunately, the MT8127 won’t support mobile networks, which is why OEMs will mostly be using it for tablets and possibly Android-based TV boxes like the PLDT TVolution.

MediaTek has come to be known as the chip-maker of choice when it comes to budget phones, tablets, and other Android devices, beating out even Qualcomm in this segment. It shouldn’t take long until we see local tablets that feature the MT8127 and the performance improvements it brings.
