If your teacher forbids you from using artificial intelligence (AI) in drafting your school papers, you might want to show them this.

The Philippine Supreme Court (SC) is seeking the help of AI to hasten and improve the drafting of its decisions of the highest court of the land, based on the proposed Php63.57 billion 2025 budget proposal.

Court Administrator Raul Villanueva revealed during the Senate finance subcommittee that they intend to utilize AI in preparing and drafting court decisions, to which Senator Grace Poe reminded SC not to depend too much on technology that it removes the “human side” of the SC decisions.

Villanueva seconded Sen. Poe’s concern and reservations about AI and explained that they intend to use AI to monitor the progress of cases while prioritizing the aging cases. They are also already developing voice-to-text transcription and translations, like converting different Filipino languages into English, which is a big step forward from the current SC best practices.

Additionally, Associate Justice Mario Lopez guaranteed the Senate that the SC would not depend entirely on AI and would continue to involve some humanity in the disposition of cases.
