Are you a fan of the Google Pixel’s software but not quite sold on its hardware? For those in this predicament, the solution used to be flashing a custom Android ROM like Pixel Experience, which brought the signature Pixel interface to other smartphones.

But in a recent turn of events, the project’s lead developer, José Henrique, has announced the shutdown of development for Pixel Experience.

In a short blog post, Henrique expressed his thanks for the support and informed the community of his decision to halt the creation of new builds for the custom ROM. Although he will leave the older versions available for download, he won’t be producing any software updates anymore.

The developer provided no clear reasons for his decision to end the project, leaving many to speculate about potential factors such as time constraints, involvement in other projects, or perhaps a waning interest in maintaining the ROM.

Despite this setback for fans of Pixel Experience, there remains a possibility that another developer might take the reins or initiate a similar project in the future. The custom ROM community may have shrunk over the past few years, but as long as there’s an Android operating system, there will likely be enthusiasts ready to explore and try out alternative software experiences for their devices.
