TON, or The Open Network, announced on Twitter that Telegram users can now send Toncoins directly from Telegram messages completely free of fees.

The Twitter post included a short video demonstrating how the transactions will work. To start, users will have to add the Telegram wallet bot on their attachment menu. This will allow users to “purchase cryptocurrency by bank card, exchange, and transfer to other wallets.”

Now, when sending crypto, users can use the Wallet attachment inside a chat, key in the Toncoin amount they want to send, confirm the details are correct, then tap send. The recipient will receive the Toncoin within the chat.

TON, originally called Telegram Open Network, was cancelled in 2020 after it faced pressure from the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). The project was originally created by the Telegram CEO and his brother back in 2018.

But even after it was abandoned, a group of developers kept it running and renamed it The Open Network. It got the support of the original creator.
