The first USB4 2.0 cable is now here thanks to Japanese peripherals firm Elecom.

Elecom is the first company to receive USB4 2.0 certification, and their cables show that the latest standard will be twice as fast as the current USB4 standard.

The company has released two models. There’s a USB4 2.0 cable with up to 80Gbps data transfer speeds and 60W power delivery. But if you want to splurge more, you can get the variant with the same 80Gbps data speeds with a much faster 240W 48V/5A power delivery support.

For comparison, the first USB4 standard offers speeds of up to 40Gbps. Meanwhile, the extra fast power delivery should enable smaller power adapters for gaming laptops.

What’s more, the new USB4 ports will also have support for DisplayPort passthrough with support for up to 8K displays at 60Hz.

Microsoft has began testing the new standard on the Windows 11 Insider Preview build.

These new cables will be available this December and it won’t be long until such standard will be native to PC hardware and other devices.
