A report from the International Data Corporation (IDC) revealed that the worldwide PC shipment has declined for the first time in two years due to the ongoing RAM shortage crisis.

IDC said that global PC shipments dropped by five percent to 68.2 million units. It had been the market’s first decline in two years after experiencing nine straight quarters of growth.

Although IDC said that revenues for companies are rising because “vendors are pushing price increases through faster than demand is dropping.” There’s no surprise that it is the customers that is carrying the brunt of the RAM crisis and not the manufacturers.

What’s worse, IDC researcher Jitesh Ubrani said that “vendors are bracing for further price hikes into 2027.” As a result, IDC expects that shipments will decline more sharply later this year.

Just recently, Apple imposed aggressive price increases on Macs and even iPads. Even the PS5 sales are affected, with the PS6 rumored to be delayed to 2029 due to the same issue.

Despite the decline, Lenovo reigned supreme for Q2 2026 after shipping 16.6 million. HP came a far second with 13 million units, followed by Dell with 9.3 million, and Apple with 6.7 million.
