Xiaomi is entering a new era with the introduction of HyperOS, its latest operating system that is the evolution of MIUI.
The new Xiaomi HyperOS was announced by the CEO himself, Lei Jun. The new operating system will come later this year in China and will debut on the Xiaomi 14 series. A global release will happen in the first weeks of 2024.
This new operating system is still part of the Android Open Source Project but will be merged with Xiaomi’s IoT platform called Vela.
Similar to what HUAWEI is doing with its HarmonyOS, HyperOS is Xiaomi’s attempt to put “people in the center of an ecosystem” where they can connect with other people, their homes, and even their vehicles.
Xiaomi said that preparations for the HyperOS began when IoT started to emerge in 2014. Initial development began in 2017, followed by the creation of a new ecosystem for devices and applications.
Interface design, new features, performance, and other concrete details on the Xiaomi HyperOS — and if older devices will also get it — should be announced alongside the Xiaomi 14 series, which should be a few days or weeks from now.
