One of Xiaomi’s hottest midrange smartphones, the Mi 8 Lite, is getting a new camera mode.

In our full review of the Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite, we praised its good camera quality. But now, the device’s photo-taking prowess will get even better as it’s expected to have Xiaomi’s Night Scene technology.

Chuan Wang, company’s Vice President, announced the upcoming Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite NIght Scene update. The same feature that the Mi Mix 3 has, and is also slated to arrive on the Redmi Note 7.

The executive said that their engineers are hard at work to bring the said update to this budget-friendly offering.

With the Night Scene mode, users can take brighter and well-detailed photos at night time, even when using the device handheld. To do this, the camera will take at least a 5-second long exposure image.

However, since the Mi 8 Lite lacks an optical image stabilizer (which is required to prevent image blur when taking long exposure images), the algorithm should work well and smart. Hence the short delay on the update’s roll-out.

Xiaomi is yet to announce the official release date of the said update. But since the Mi 8 Lite and the Redmi Note 7 has identical hardware, we expect the Night Scene mode to arrive on these devices at the same time.

The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite is available in the Philippines for Php13,990 for the 4GB/64GB model, while the 6GB/64GB variant is at Php16,990.
