It appears that Samsung is trying to expand its semicon business Exynos by offering chipsets to top Chinese brands such as Xiaomi and OPPO.

We might see Exynos-powered smartphones from Xiaomi and OPPO as early as the first half of next year. Meanwhile, OPPO’s sister company Vivo has already released devices like the Vivo S6 5G, which runs on an Exynos 980 5G chip.

The report from Business Korea reveals that Xiaomi and OPPO are experiencing chipset supply issues that affect their goal of expanding production. Hence they tapped Samsung for help.

It’s said that competitive hardware pricing is the reason why both Chinese companies decided to go with Exynos.

Chances are, we’ll see the rumored Exynos 981 chipset on upcoming Xiaomi and OPPO devices. But if Samsung is generous enough, they may also lend its flagship Exynos 1080 CPU to the competition, which is said to have better performance than the Snapdragon 865 Plus.
