In an unprecedented move that sent shockwaves through the mobile industry, Google has launched “Android for iPhone,” a groundbreaking initiative allowing iPhone users to run Android on their devices.
Since its launch in 2007, Apple’s iPhone has run exclusively on the company’s proprietary iOS software. But with this development, iPhone users will now have an option to choose which operating system they want to use on Apple’s hardware.
To make “Android for iPhone” possible, Google’s engineering team has created a custom version of Android designed to work seamlessly with the iPhone’s A15 chip. This includes a tailored boot loader that enables users to dual-boot, choosing between Android or iOS at startup.
Only the recent iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max will be initially supported, but Google said that it’s working on making it available for older iPhones up to 2018’s XR.
Google plans to roll out “Android for iPhone” through a beta program next month, starting with developers and early adopters.
