Following the rumors which surfaced for the past few years, Huawei Technologies Inc. has confirmed that they could possibly release a ‘truly foldable’ smartphone, according to Huawei’s Consumer Business President Jim Xu.

As stated in a report from Nikkei, Huawei wants to introduce its folding phone earlier than the release of its rival, Samsung.

Huawei’s first foldable handset will use flexible organic lighting, a display releasing diode, manufactured by BOE Technology Group. An anonymous analyst familiar to Huawei told that the company will release a limited number of 20,000 to 30,000 handsets or even less.

It could be remembered that Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu announced that the company is already working on a prototype scheduled to appear later this year.

According to Jeff Pu, “The Chinese company wants to be the first in the industry even if the display technology from its panel supplier might not be that ready like Samsung.”

While foldable-designed handsets may be a little odd, it will hold up a larger display and can be folded into more compact shapes – making it easier to handle.
