Cherry Mobile has been hailed by IDC as the top smartphone vendor in the Philippines. However, it looks like the local player is still striving further by attempting to enter the selfie-smartphone arena yet again — an industry that brought tons of to both OPPO and Vivo.

Just recently, Cherry Mobile aired the fifth installment of their Facebook Live show. The episode featured one of their biggest endorsers, Kim Chiu.

As the show was rolling, Kim Chiu took out an unfamiliar Cherry Mobile device which we suspect to be an upcoming new smartphone.

Judging by the large camera lens backed with an LED flash on the front, this mystery device can be the follow-up to the Flare Selfie of last year. The way the front camera was setup also kind of reminiscent to the Zenfone Selfie, one of ASUS’ first attempt on the selfie-centric category.

Furthermore, it looks like this Cherry Mobile selfie device will have a screen size of 5-inch to 5.5-inch. It also appears that the company opted for an on-screen buttons, instead of taking the capacitive route.

Also, the back panel looks identical to the Desire R8. The location where the secondary camera should be located is now replaced by a fingerprint scanner.

Well, that’s all we have for now about that mystery Cherry Mobile handset. Stay tuned as we’ll report immediately once this thing gets officially released.
