The Philippines’ third major telco player, DITO Telecommunity, is contemplating broadening its access to customers via an extended reach to the local people of Camotes Island in Cebu, as per the province’s Governor Gwendolyn Garcia.

Spearheaded by Atty. Adel Tamano, telco officials and the governor met on Wednesday afternoon for a conversation regarding the possibility of rendering the island people with strong internet connectivity.

Comprised of only four towns, namely Pilar, Poro, San Francisco, and Tudela, Camotes is a landmark with a population of 103,000, according to the 2021 consensus.

But while there is the hope of finally establishing a robust network that will link the islanders and its many tourists, and eliminate its detachment, to the internet, Garcia warns that telco signals have always been erratic in the area—suggesting probable previous attempts to cover the area with reliable internet.
