Philippine telco giant PLDT Inc. and its wireless subsidiary Smart Communications Inc., reported that they were able to perform strongly in terms of upgrading its infrastructures and network rollout in 2020.
PLDT’s fiber infrastructure, as per the company, has reached 429,000 kilometers last December — the most extensive fiber line in the country.
This same fiber line supports Smart Communications‘ mobile networks, which has now reached 96% of the Philippine population and is now available in 95% of cities and municipalities nationwide.
Smart has also upped its total base stations count to over 59,000 and has put up additional 5G locations across the country. The company now has 10,000 sites around the Philippines, with 700 built last year despite the quarantine and community restrictions.
