Smart has announced its sustained growth for the first half of 2021 and its lead over telco competitors in terms of total mobile data users.
PLDT’s wireless unit boasts of having 39.5 million users by the end of June 2021, a 6.1 million or 18-percent year-on-year increase. In comparison, Globe amassed 38.6 million users within the same period.
Besides its dominance in terms of the number of users, Smart has also announced it bested other telcos in mobile data revenues. The company experienced a 12-percent growth in the first semester of 2021, bringing its revenues to Php35 billion. It’s 5 percent higher than what the competition experienced over the same period.
There’s one more metric that Smart claims victory over other telcos—total mobile data traffic. The telecom reached 4,460 petabytes since lockdowns began in the first quarter of 2020. More than a third of that amount, at 1,579 petabytes, was recorded from January to June 2021.
