The Mobile Number Portability (MNP) service has been availed by over 5,000 subscribers nationwide since its public launch last September, according to Telecommunications Connectivity Inc. (TCI).

The network transfers are quickly picking up, as the total significantly increased from the previous 1,000 subscribers who made the switch in October.

For a recap, the Mobile Number Portability service lets Filipinos switch telcos and keep their mobile number. In the past, subscribers who switch networks are ‘forced’ to change numbers because they are tied to a specific telco. This is available for both prepaid and postpaid accounts.

General Manager of TCI, Melanie Manuel, says they expect around 1 million subscribers to make the switch “at the initial stage.”
