After months of pressure from the US, Britain agreed to remove Chinese tech giant Huawei from its 5G network.
The policy prompts direct damage to Britain’s relationship with China. It also comes as a huge blow on UK’s mobile providers who have been using Huawei for almost two decades.
The announcement said that UK telecom providers must not purchase any 5G tools by Huawei at the end of 2020. Likewise, existing 5G equipment should be removed by 2027. Britain said that the ban would delay the 5G adaption in the country for another year.
Huawei, on the other hand, finds UK’s decision to be disappointing and motivated by politics. It added that the decision is unfortunate for the people of the UK using mobile phones.
With 5G technology, internet speeds will be faster, with support to more wireless devices. Currently, 5G is already available in many UK cities but with limited coverage.
