Apple just quietly announced a new product that will join the iPod Touch Family, the 16GB iPod Touch which comes with a 4-inch Retina display with a price of $229. It will replace the current 16GB model available in the market.

This new iPod Touch basically inherits all other features of the 5th generation iPod Touch but the same difference lies with absence of the 5-megapixel rear camera. Fortunately, there will be a 1.2-megapixel FaceTime HD camera which can also capture HD videos up to 30 fps.

It’s the same as the 32GB and 64GB of the 5th gen iPod Touch, but as we all know Apple skipped the 16GB model and decided to sell the older product. Well, it looks like they finally stepped up as this will replace the aging model.

The new 16GB iPod Touch comes with the dual-core A5 processor which is great for a smooth experience. This model will also be 6.1mm-thin like the 5th generation variant and a 4-inch display with 1136 x 640 pixel resolution. Apple opted to remove the “loop” lanyard hook though so that’s quite a bummer. Other than that, it seems like all is well.

The device will be available for $229 which is $70 cheaper than the 32GB model. It will come in black and silver and is priced at Php12,490 in the Philippines.
