One of Android’s biggest strengths is its ability to mimic PC-like functionality, including running some Windows games through emulation. Popular emulators like GameHub, developed by accessory maker GameSir, have traditionally worked best on Qualcomm Snapdragon-powered devices. Now, MediaTek’s Dimensity chips are catching up.

GameSir announced that its GameHub emulator now offers improved support for MediaTek chipsets with Mali GPUs, specifically the Dimensity 9000 to 9400 series. According to the company, these chips can now handle DirectX9 to DirectX11 PC games with performance “comparable to Qualcomm Adreno, and even surpassing it in some scenarios.”

The upgrade required addressing several technical hurdles, including Mali’s Vulkan implementation, unstable shader compilers, and missing drivers. GameHub’s team developed a “code conversion mechanism” to translate DirectX instructions for Mali GPUs and optimized runtime performance where drivers fell short.

GameHub has also collaborated with MediaTek to create Mali-specific drivers for better emulation. While Dimensity chips are the immediate beneficiaries, the improvements could extend to other Mali-based processors, including Google’s Tensor lineup.

This development could level the playing field for MediaTek users, offering more options for gamers who want PC titles on their Android devices. With Qualcomm no longer the sole leader in emulation performance, the competition is heating up.
