The Huawei Y9s and the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro are two phones that are priced nearly to each other. As with every phone brands nowadays, they’re always including the word “Pro” on their phones by offering a slightly better option to their base units.
The Huawei Y9s is the recently launched mid-range smartphone from Huawei’s lineup. It has a 16-megapixel pop-up front camera and a very uncommon side mounted fingerprint scanner.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro on the other hand is a mid-range device that is very popular thanks to its great price-to-feature ratio. It has a quad-camera set up that has the capability to take good pictures and videos.

From the specs table above, you’ll notice that the two phones are not that similar with one another. In fact, they differ in a lot of features.
To start things off, let’s talk about they display. The Huawei Y9s has a 6.59-inch LCD screen compared to the 6.53-inch IPS display of the Redmi Note 8 Pro. The Redmi Note 8 Pro also has Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection while the other is not specified.
Performance-wise, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro has a MediaTek Helio G90T chip and a Mali-G76 MC4 GPU while the Huawei Y9s has a HiSilicon Kirin 710F SoC and a Mali G51 GPU. Based from recent benchmarks, the Redmi Note 8 Pro takes the win.
On the subject of memory, the Huawei Y9s has a lone 6GB RAM and 128GB of internal storage variant while the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro has 2 models in 6GB/64GB and 6GB/128GB. Although, the Huawei 9Ys’ memory can be expanded up to 512GB while the Redmi Note 8 Pro can only be expanded up to 256GB.
In terms of cameras, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro has a quad-camera set up that consists of a 64-megapixel main shooter, 8-megapixel (ultra-wide), 2-megapixel (macro) and 2-megapixel (depth sensor) cameras.
On the other hand, the Huawei Y9s only has a triple rear camera set up that’s composed of a 48-megapixel main camera, 8-megapixel (ultra-wide) and a 2-megapixel (depth sensor) cameras.

At the front, the Redmi Note 8 Pro has a 20-megapixel camera while the Huawei 9Ys has a 16-megapixel motorized pop-up front-facing camera for selfies.
When it comes to battery, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro packs the bigger one thanks to its 4,500mAh and 18W fast charging feature. Meanwhile, the Huawei Y9s only has a 4,000mAh battery and 10W quick charging.
Both phones also have USB-Type C connectivity. For the fingerprint scanner, the Huawei Y9s has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner compared to the rear-mounted sensor of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro.
Finally, it all comes down to price. As usual, Huawei is more expensive than Xiaomi. The Huawei Y9s is currently priced at Php13,990 for the lone 6GB/128GB variant. The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is surprisingly cheaper as the 6GB/128GB variant is only priced at Php12,990 and the 6GB/64GB variant costs Php11,490.
In this matchup, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro clearly takes the win over the Huawei Y9s thanks to its superior processor, better cameras, bigger battery and more affordable price tag.
