HUAWEI, the Chinese multinational tech company, has announced the integration of the GCash Watch Pay option into its wearables, making it the country’s first wrist-based payment feature via QR.
During the global launch of the HUAWEI Mate XT Ultimate in Malaysia, the consumer electronics company also announced the addition of GCash Watch Pay to more HUAWEI smartwatches and wearables, including the latest HUAWEI Band 10. This allows users to make contactless payments even without their phones.
HUAWEI has yet to release the complete list of smartwatches and other wearables to get the GCash Watch Pay update, but it will include HUAWEI Band 10, Watch GT 5 Series, and other wearables.
The GCash Watch Pay lets users pay directly for goods and services via a QR code. However, it’s not yet like the Apple Pay and Samsung Pay features (also waiting for these, though).
In November 2024, HUAWEI announced that GCash Watch Pay, the WATCH GT 5 Series, WATCH FIT 3, and WATCH Ultimate (Green) would be the first wearables to offer wrist payment via QR capability. On the other hand, GCash first teased its Watch Pay and HUAWEI partnership back in June 2024.
