It seems like Cherry Mobile is really determined as they continue to announce uber cheap android devices one after another. They already have quite a handful of smartphones out but to strengthen their foothold, here’s another one.
Teased as something big XXXL android phone a few days ago, the avid fans of Cherry Mobile roared in anticipation of the long overdue Cherry Mobile Omega. But as it turned out, they got another 5-incher and added 0.2 inches more resulting to the Cherry Mobile Cruize.
Before you get excited and think that this is an upgrade to the Cherry Mobile Titan, I’m sorry to tell you that it’s not. Actually, it’s far from being one and the same thing can be said if it’ll be compared with the Cherry Mobile Flare. But that’s really not the purpose of this device. Cherry Mobile Cruize is specifically targeted to people who need a big screen but are on a limited budget.
Large 5.2-inch WVGA Capacitive Display
Flaunting a humongous 5.2-inch Display, this device can be a very good fit as a multimedia player apart from its phone functionality. Internet browsing is also pleasurable as web content can be easily seen and understood. However, since the Cherry Mobile Cruize is a budget offering, the same WVGA 480×800 pixel resolution that was used on both Cherry Mobile Flare and Titan is on this phone as well. Meaning, the display will not be so good as it has a poor pixel-per-inch density (179ppi). But if you’re just a casual user and you don’t mind the sharpness of the display, this setting will suffice your needs. After all, other cheap android tablets still has the same WVGA display and most users say that it’s easily tolerable.
1GHz Broadcom processor, 512MB RAM, Android 4.0 ICS
Another reason that makes the Cherry Mobile Cruize cheap is that it only has a 1GHz single core processor unlike the Flare. Don’t under estimate the power of a single core though, as it can also run most of the fun-filled HD games out there. But still, it’s not recommended for hardcore gaming. The RAM is maintained at 512MB and that can assure you that it can multitask decently – the not-so-heavy apps, that is.
Connectivity: 3G, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth
Surprisingly, the Cherry Mobile Cruize still packs all the standard connectivity option of an android phone. I initially thought that its low price means that it doesn’t have either 3G or GPS, but I was wrong. It still has both of them and other things like Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are present too. And oh, the ever-dependable dual-SIM and dual-standby support is here to stay.
Multimedia: 5MP main camera, VGA front, 720p HD video recording
In terms of other multimedia related features, Cherry Mobile is really generous enough to still give a 5-megapixel autofocus main camera with LED flash and a VGA front-facing camera. It is also capable of 720p HD video recording so capturing videos will be better. Moreover, it has a 4GB of internal storage so you’ll be given a fair amount of space to store your files. And in case you need more, it supports microSD card of up to 32GB.
Great battery life: 2500mAh
To keep users going and to avoid the interruption of usage, the 2500mAh battery will be a great partner to rely on. The Cherry Mobile Titan already has a superb battery life and since the Cherry Mobile Cruize is only powered by a single core CPU, we can expect that it can pass the two-day moderate usage without a problem.
Is Cherry Mobile Cruize a good buy?
So is the Cherry Mobile Cruize a good choice? Yes, though the Flare still has better specifications and a lower price. But if a large workspace is important to you and you can squeeze in a few hundreds more, then by all means go get the Cherry Mobile Cruize. It’s only single core but I can tell you that it can still do most of the tasks smoothly. Sure there will be hiccups here and there, but for a price of only Php4,499, we can hardly complain.
Yes, 1GHz single core CPU is still powerful enough for basic needs.
I definitely buy this one although it’s cheap, who cares!! I’m not a social climber who’s trying to buy the epic iPhone, Glaxy or Xperia..
