Announced way back in December, Cherry Mobile Omega got a huge fanfare because it’s rumored to sport the latest Android iteration, the Jelly Bean. The device was supposedly set for a release before the end of the year, but Cherry Mobile decided to push it this 2013.

It was teased over and over again that’s why tons of people hold on to their money and decided not to buy the Cherry Mobile Titan W500 in anticipation of this device. They’ve waited for almost a month longer than the estimated time of arrival, and it was only now that Cherry Mobile official confirmed the availability of the handset.

As expected, the Cherry Mobile Omega features Android 4.1 Jelly Bean which is considered to be a notch better than Ice Cream Sandwich because it’s smoother and it improves the overall performance of a smartphone due to Google’s Project Butter. But the hardware is almost the same as the Titan, though. You’ll get the familiar 1GHz dual-core processor and 512MB RAM to go along with the huge 5.2-inch phablet like display that will make you more productive than ever.

Since the price is just Php6,699, the rumored 1GB RAM is way to much for them to handle. The 512MB RAM is still not that bad and based on my experience on the Cherry Mobile Titan, it’s already a good amount to start with. The Cherry Mobile Omega can surely handle all the advance needs that you might have and the compatibility of the HD games and apps shouldn’t be a worry. Although this is not yet confirmed, we assume that this is the reason why it’s not included in the poster above. We can be wrong though. We’ll just confirm it later once we get the full details.

UPDATE: It’s confirmed. The box indicates that it’s only 5-inches and “upgradable to Jelly Bean” but the device inside is already running on Jelly Bean and is indeed a 5.2-incher. See the photo below.

Other specs include a 5-megapixel camera, VGA front-facing camera, 4GB of internal memory, and a large enough 2300mAh to keep the device up for a day or two. That amount is ideal for this configuration and considering it’s only powered by a dual-core CPU and a modest screen resolution. Oh, there’s still no confirmation on the resolution but we expect it to be either WVGA(480×800)  or qHD(960×540) at most.

UPDATE: Here’s the official specs sheet from Cherry Mobile.

Cherry Mobile Omega Specs

Interestingly, the Cherry Mobile Omega is priced for only Php6,699, just a couple of hundreds away from Titan. For the extra Php200, you’ll get a larger screen and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. But, you’ll miss the built-in flip cover that the Titan has to offer. If you already have the latter, it’s best to keep it and just wait for a new device with better specifications. But if you’re still looking in buying one, we’ll recommended the Cherry Mobile Omega instead. This might be a big disappointment to many since they’ve waited for so long in hopes of the 1GB of RAM. Still, we have to give it out to Cherry Mobile for being generous enough to offer it at such a low price.

Cherry Mobile Omega will come in black and white and it will be available within this month.

UPDATE: Cherry Mobile Omega is  now available at SM North EDSA.

    1. May you please think before you speak. The CM Omega is priced at Php 6.699.00. That says it all. You shouldn’t be expecting specifications of a high-end phone since you get what you pay for. And besides, CM’s target market is the middle class level.

  4. “But, you’ll miss the built-in flip cover” e wala na yan! d na yan kasama, lahat ng stocks na new releases, wala ng flipcover. pls. edit.
