Amidst the start of the rainy season, the good folks from Cherry Mobile have brighter offerings that Filipinos can look forward to. Among the company’s upcoming Android gadgets is the new Cherry Mobile Thunder 2.0, a respectable sequel to the first generation for just Php6,299 (official SRP).Indeed the price is already an attractive reason for people to buy a Cherry Mobile Thunder 2.0. Though it’s cheap, most of the smartphone’s specifications are on par with what high-profile smartphones released this year have to offer. For one, the device runs on the latest Android Jelly Bean 4.2. Handling the processing and graphics departments are a 1.2 Ghz Quad-Core CPU and a PowerVR GPU. Thunder 2.0 also has EDGE, 3G, and HSPA+ connectivity, dual SIM configuration, and 8MP rear and 2MP cameras.
The good stuff doesn’t end there. The Cherry Mobile Thunder 2.0’s Wi-Fi antenna is compatible with the 802.11n protocol, can create Wi-Fi hotspots, comes with Bluetooth, and is equipped with assisted global positioning system (A-GPS). With dimensions that measure 145 x 74 x 9.9 mm, the smartphone is arguably thin. Finally, its large Li-Ion battery comes with a whopping 2100 mAh capacity.
But for Cherry Mobile to reach the Php6,299 price point, a couple of compromises had to be made. The 5-inch display is reportedly only an FWVGA capacitive screen with 5-point touch technology and a measly 480 x 854 resolution (196 ppi). Internal storage can merely hold up to 4GB of data, although a microSD slot is available to expand the storage up to 32GB. Online pundits are also going to be disappointed that the supposed 1GB system memory has failed to make it in the official specs. Instead, Cherry Mobile Thunder 2.0 only has 512MB RAM.
Cherry Mobile has not included in its “Junetastic” press release an exact date of availability for its Thunder 2.0, although the golden day may just be a few weeks (or months) away.
If the specs of Cherry Mobile Thunder 2.0 fail to satiate your tech hunger, then perhaps the 5.7-inch Cherry Mobile Blaze 2.0 may be up to your desires. For just Php3,200 more than Thunder 2.0’s suggested retail price (or Php9,499 SRP to be exact), Blaze 2.0 gets you double the RAM, better cameras, and bigger battery capacity. Its IPS LCD display also boasts a 720 x 1280 screen resolution (258 ppi). The other specs remain the same.
A third phone is also promoted in Cherry Mobile’s press release, albeit attributed with only one teensy detail. Teasing a thickness of 7.7mm, this upcoming phone is expected to be the Cherry Mobile Razor.
