As what you might already know by now, Honor is sub-brand of Huawei. So, it wouldn’t be surprising if these two names would launch a smartphone that is identical to each other.
That is the exact case with their latest releases — the Honor 10 and Huawei P20. It goes without saying that these two, being the flag bearer of each of their brands, have identical features.
The two are really the same that the Honor 10 is sometimes looked at as the budget counterpart of the P20. It’s not really surprising as Honor is poised as the budget-friendly alter-ego of Huawei. And two, well, as I said earlier, they pretty much came from the same mold.
The Huawei P20 Pro, together with its two siblings, gained a lot of buzz for offering great value for the price. Their current line-up is cheaper than other alternatives from brands like Samsung — without too much compromise on the specs sheet.
But then, here’s the Honor 10 which is even cheaper than P20. So the question is, how were they able to make a P20-like device more economical? Is the Honor 10 actually a better option because of the price? Or did they made too much compromise that you’re better off spending a bit more for the P20?

As you can see, both the Honor 10 and the Huawei P20 share the same features almost throughout this specs comparison. However, there’s one particular part where Huawei’s offering was far superior to Honor’s.
If it weren’t obvious, it is P20’s camera system. The Huawei P20 has a 20-megapixel camera that shoots in monochrome, and another 12-megapixel sensor that shoots in color. The Honor 10 might have a better sensor resolution at 24-megapixel and 16-megapixels, respectively. But the P20 gets them by its features.
For starters, the P20 has Leica optics which is a buzzword that Huawei is using on their flagship smartphones for a couple of years now. The lens is co-developed with Leica, one of the most prominent names in the imaging technology. In addition, it has an impressive 5x hybrid zoom and a ludicrous 960fps slow-motion recording.

But other than that, the two are the same in a lot of departments. They both have an identical 5.84-inch FHD+ IPS display with the trendy display notch. They also use the same HiSilicon 970 processor, which is the same chipset that’s found on Huawei’s other flagship smartphones.
The Honor 10 took an impressive turn in the memory segment with its 6GB RAM, while the P20 only has 4GB. But the P20 can easily steal the spotlight as its design looks more elegant and premium. However, this part is actually subjective so your mileage may vary.
At the end of the day, I think it will depend rely on how much money you are willing to spend on a smartphone. The Huawei P20 has an official price of Php34,990 here in the Philippines. On the other hand, the Honor 10 is yet to be launched in the country, but we’re expecting it to cost not more than Php30,000.
If you have the money, and you really think that those extra camera features are essential, then getting the Huawei P20 is a no-brainer. But if taking photos or shooting videos isn’t your top priority, you might want to settle with the Honor 10.
