Late last month, the Huawei Honor Tablet launched in Malaysia without fanfare. It’s a budget-friendly tablet sporting an exquisite metal unibody.

The Huawei Honor Tablet, while essentially an 8-inch Android slate, can also be considered as a gigantic phone (even larger than the leaked Huawei Honor 6). It not only sends and receives text messages but can also make calls too. Holding it up against the ear would warrant quizzical looks from other people, though, which is why a Bluetooth headset should come in handy with this tablet.

As a budget-friendly device, the Huawei Honor Tablet uses passable specs. There are last year’s Snapdragon 200 processor and Adreno 302 graphics. It also sports an 8-inch IPS display, 16GB of built-in storage, and 1GB of RAM. Selfie and photo junkies might not be satisfied with this device, as there are only a 5-megapixel main camera with fixed focus at the back and a VGA camera in front.

The Huawei Honor Tablet also features a portable design, measuring only 7.9mm on its side and weighing 360g. With a 4800mAh non-removable battery, this slate can last up to 10 hours on gaming apps and up to 13 hours on video playback. It also supports 1080p video playback and has HSPA+ connectivity for decent data speeds.

Per Huawei’s official online store in Malaysia, Vmall.my, the Huawei Honor Tablet can already be pre-ordered until October 14. Delivery starts on the 10th. The tablet costs RM599, which is around Php8,200.
