Huawei Philippines just announced the availability of the new Huawei Y300 yesterday afternoon. Our local brands have been dominating the Philippine market for a while now so Huawei wants to break the streak and rule the entry-level smartphone race. To help start their campaign, they introduced the affordable Y300.

Huawei Y300 has similar specs to other pinoy android phones. But, let’s remember that Huawei is one of the most notable mobile manufacturer internationally so that means their products are way above average in terms of quality and durability. I’m not saying that other brands’ quality are bad (they are actually good!), just pointing it out in case you think that Huawei is just another crappy Chinese manufacturer from the past – it’s not.

Huawei Y300’s front is dominated by a 4-inch IPS Gorilla Glass display with WVGA resolution – yes, you read that right. For only Php5,490, they managed to squeeze in Corning’s famous protective glass but that’s mostly because the first generation of the Gorilla Glass technology should be cheaper now considering its already two generations old. Still, it’s a really good perk since you can leave it without a screen protector.

It has a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm processor and 512MB of RAM to handle the usual computing tasks that you would do on an android phone. Huawei Y300 also runs on Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean – one of the few devices who sport Jelly Bean out of the box that’s priced below Php6k (another phone is the O+ 8.52). If you’d ask me if Jelly Bean is that good to consider a smartphone with it, yes, it is worth it especially if you can get one at a low price point. Other specs include the 4GB internal memory which is easily expandable via a microSD card, 5-megapixel shooter, VGA camera, Wi-Fi, and GPS. For the rest of the technical specifications, please refer to the list below.

Huawei Y300 has a great set of specs and is under the proof of a recognized brand so we can’t see any reason why this device wouldn’t be a hit just like the Cherry Mobile Flare. What do you guys think about the Y300? Will you choose this over other local android phones?
