The Philippines proves to be a profitable market for Kata, as the Hong Kong-based manufacturer is releasing yet another device a few days from now: the Kata FishTab 3. It’s the third tablet for the company to be released in our country and touts a significant bump in terms of specs over its predecessors.

Just how better is the Kata FishTab 3 than the previous versions? To start with, its powerful quad-core Rockchip processor runs at a decent performance and efficiency, something that can’t normally be found in other budget-friendly tablets. Users can expect graphics rendering to go smoothly on the 7.9-inch IPS multi-touch display, with visuals able to remain their clarity and vividness even at extreme viewing angles.

Yet another attractive perk of the FishTab 3 is its back that’s polished with metallic silver. Again, one can’t easily find a similar design like this in other low-cost devices. The tablet’s light weight and build also make it quite comfortable to hold over extended periods of use. Moreover, some retailers like the Owtel Shop are bundling a leather case and screen protector when buyers purchase the tablet in any of their outlets. Other items included in the packaging are the microUSB cable, a USB power adapter, and the manual or quick guide pamphlet.


If you’re looking for any shortcoming in the Kata FishTab 3, know that the screen resolution uses the older 4:3 aspect ratio instead of the more popular widescreen formats. The pixel density is also far from Retina levels, which means text and images lose their smooth appearance as you look closer into the screen.

With an expected retail price of Php10,999, the Kata FishTab 3 will become available on August 18 and have its first public unboxing at SM Cyberzone Megamall on that day. You can expect fans of the ichthyo-inspired tablet to be there.

    Bulok yan. Don’t ever waste your time and money for this piece of crap. I should know. I own the T2 and sent it to Owtel Pioneer for repair last July2, until now The unit is still with them. Almost 2 months and still I haven’t retrieved my tab. Almost everyday of calling their customer service and no solid answer.

    This specs are ok except there is a missing HDMI port to connect displays to large TV’s or projector (eg. watching HD movies/videos, playing games, presentation), and the touch screen is only 5-point (other competitors has 10-point for playing complex games or applications). But general use, fishtab is ok.

    My 2 day old fishtab3 has a very big dark spot area (4 inches long and an inch wide) in the middle of the screen this is really obvious when you are reading something on a white background and its even worst when you swipe the screen it gets even darker. I called main office if i could return this to the shop where i purchased it and they said!? i haven’t even used the damn thing for more than 5hrs and they’re telling me to go to their owtel service center? im not asking for a refund i just want it replaced. ill be uploading images later..

      How did u get it replaced? Mine is still in the service center.. The customer service rep that i spoke with is very rude! Said that i have to wait for 3 weeks to get a feed back!! Wtf! I only used it for 5 days

    This product is BS!!!! i just got mines today and it already causing
    problems and it just froze with a red, black, blue, white lines!!! I
    never did anything wrong!!! It just did it by itself!!! It work good for
    about 10-12 hours then u will experience problems. I’m contacting the
    company to get my money back, but they’re not answering.

    Sunday tinitignan KO ung Kara fishtab sà sm north edsa cyberzone, sinabi KO sa sales man download no nga un real racing 3 pag maganda at walang lag bibilin KO. But and gusto KO talaga is nexus 7 2nd gen.. At nag balik ako para makita ang fishtab I found very worse tama any tawag fishtab ha ha pistingtab tan! Now I’m happy with my nexus 7 2nd gen. and lupet into.

    I also bought kata fishtab3 and use it for 2days after that it automatically shuts down.i brought it back sa pioneer and told me they will send it to their customer service for checking…damn its been 10days and the customer service keep on telling me to wait coz their policy is 3weeks!!!its brandnew so it should be replaced immediately..owtel,do u want this to reach dti or any legal entity to revoked ur license?para po sa mga nagrereklamo u cn reach me here and pagsmmasamahin natin ang reklamo…

      I have the same experience, at alam mo bang since November 3, 2013 pa yung kata fishtab 3 ko sa kanila?! until now hindi parin binabalik, i’ve been calling their cust service pero wala naman silang magawa, nakalagay sa job order 30 days lang pero ngayon pinagaantay pa ako ng January 18? tapos taga cavite pa ako then nagsirado yung Owtel store nila dito sa Alabang since december 30 tapos sa Robinson Pioneer na branch na daw ako pupunta! sinumbong ko sa DTI, sabi ng DTI they have policies din daw na kailangan hingin ko muna yung replacement kapag daw pati replacement eh damage saka lang ako pwede mag refund, ang nakakabwisit pa yung Service Center nilang hindi ko malaman kung meron nga talaga eh walang address at phone number! AT KAHIT TANUNGIN KO SABI WALA DAW SILANG ADDRESS AT PHONE NUMBER! sabi ko eh san nyo dinadala ang mga nirerepair nyo? sa USA paba yan kaya ganyan katagal?! I swear kapag hindi ko pa to nakuha sa sinasabi nilang January 18 ilalabas ko na to sa TV, I’ll ask help from ABS-CBN, or even GMA, nag matelevise ang kawalang kwenta nilang service… Sana Samsung nalang binili kong tablet, kasi Samsung will never let their customers experience this!!! To anyone who reads my feedback think a million times before dealing with these people, the gadget itself is good and less expensive but if it gets damage and you need to have it repaired due to its warranty then your in for a big surprise!!! yung binayad mo na mura sa tablet it’s like gusto mo nalang magbayad ng mahal na tablet sa kilalang company kesa dito!!!

    After reading these comments, I’m beginning to wonder if i’ll ever get my tablet back again, or if they will ever fix my tablet, I got it for a discounted price, thinking that since the tablet itself looks nice and works really good I thought I got the best deal. This is not PANINIRA, it so happen that I’m one of the people who got a defective device and couldn’t really get any answers, mine suddenly froze while I was playing Plants vs Zombies, it suddenly turned off and wouldn’t turn on, just had the tablet for a month, bought it on October 1, I am very careful with my tablet, I bought a leather case and a screen protector, NEVER NAHULOG ANG TABLET NA TO, so I decided to charge it and just walk up in the middle of the night to make sure it doesn’t get charge too much, but I didn’t turn it on, so the next morning I tried to turn it on and that’s where it all started, it stayed on the logo only and wouldn’t continue to the home screen, me and my husband took it back to SM southmall, but was asked to bring it to Owtel Starmall Alabang, we took the tablet on November 3, 2011, we waited for almost 2 weeks. We went back to the same store on November 16 but the tablet was never fixed and even got worst, we returned it again on November 18 and until now I haven’t gotten my tablet back, I’ve been calling their customer Service even spoke to a Manager but I never got any response as they just keep saying that they will send a feedback. I asked what the address of their service center and the phone number so I can just get the feedback myself, but they said they do not have the address and the phone number of their so called Service Center!!! So I asked who do they send the feedback to?how do they contact this Service Center? and who is fixing their devices? but they can’t tell my anything except they will send feedback. I am ready to file complain to DTI’s legal office and seek assistance from ABS-CBN. They asked to wait until January 18 which is already beyond their job order form which says 30 days only. I want my money back if not I want them to replace it of a brand new tab 3. To anyone who reads this, and is planning to buy any device from Owtel Store or any other store who sells Kata brands, think a million times, you wouldn’t really know if you will get a defective device or not until you experience it, SA MGA TAONG MAY PRODUCT NG KATA NA MAAYOS CONGRATULATIONS, AT SA MGA TAONG MAYROONG DEFECTIVE NA DEVICE OR CURRENTLY EXPERIENCING THE SAME SITUATION AS MINE? GOODLUCK NALANG SA ATIN AT SANA MAKAKUHA PA TAYO NG JUSTICE SA PERA PINAGHIRAPAN NATEN KITAIN PARA LANG MAKABILI NG DEVICE NA GANITO.

    Nsa gumagamit yan, eh ginagawa mo yatang PS3 or Xbox yung FishTab mo eh….wag ganun…ok naman ang FishTab eh…kung ayaw mo ng Fishtab mo e di ibenta mo…harharharhar..

    Ok siguro ang product pero super pangit ng customer service. Binili ko yung
    gadget ko ng wednesday ng gabi. Nung thursday ko na lang naopen yun
    package and napansin ko na may mga white sprites sa screen (obvious na
    factory defect). So nung friday binalikan ko yun pwesto sa mall na
    pinagbilihinan ko (megamall). Hindi sila ng rereplace kahit na kakabili
    mo lang. Pilit na pinapapunta ako sa starmall dahil dun daw ang service
    center. So naglakad ako from mega to starmall. Pawis na pawis ako. Pag
    punta ko sa starmall. Doon daw nila irereplace yung gadget kapag naprove
    na factory defect. Hindi pala service center yun kundi’ ay isa rin shop
    na mas malaki. Nakausap ko yun manager, hindi rin daw sila ng
    rereplace. Dadalhin pa muna sa service center na ayaw nila sabihin kung
    saan yun. Baka sa greenhills technician lang. Ang sabi ko wala naman
    kailangan tignan ang technician kasi wala namang sira. May white sprites
    lang sa screen. Siya mismo kitang kita yung sinasabi ko. So tinanong ko
    kung kelan ko pwede makuha yung resulta kung ano ang magiging findings.
    Sabi nya sa coming wednesday ay pipickup-in ng service center yung
    gadget. Then wait daw ako ng 3 to 4 weeks. Friday nung nireport ko yun
    problem tapos sa (after 5 days pa) wednesday pa lang magsstart yung
    processo nila. Napamura ako sa isip dahil dun sa sinabi sa akin.
    Kakabili ko ng ng gadget. Hindi pa tumagal ng isang oras sa kamay ko na
    gamit. Maghihintay pa ako ng 3 to 4 weeks. Parang binigyan ko sila ng
    pera tapos hihintayin ko yung bagay na bibilihin ko. Bwisit. Asar na
    asar ako. Pinipigil ko na talaga ang inis ko. Nanghinayang ako sa pera.
    Dapat ang binili ko na lang ay ibang brand. Eto yung mga choices ko:
    Samsung tab – magdadagdag na lang ng konti. Asus same price lang same
    specs pa. Starmobile same spec and mas mura ang may free otg cable pa.
    Wag kayo bumili dito sa Kata. Ok siguro ang products pero walang kwenta
    ang customer service.

      Got mine three weeks ago at SM North EDSA.. pagkabili ko pina-check sakin yun unit at pina-testing all-you-can pa for possible defects, binuksan agad yun box at after ko ma-check, sila na rin mismo ang naglagay ng screen protector, kaya nagtataka ako sayo kung bakit a day after mo pa nabuksan yun unit mo, mababait naman ang mga sales rep nila dahil nag-offer pa sila kung gusto mo instal-lan ng games or movies free of charge!

        Hindi mo kita yung kulay white sa liwanag ng mall. Kapag nasa dark area ka tulad ng kwarto na patay ang ilaw dun kitang kita yung white. Nung binalik ko sa pwesto nila, ilang beses ko pa inemphasize sa kanila yung part na may kulay white. Hindi rin nila makita agad or dideadma lang nila. Nung nagpunta ako sa starmall, dun inacknowledge ng manager na may problem ka yung screen. Mabait yung mga sales personnel sa pwesto syempre tabaho nila na maging mabait. Subukan mo tumawag sa customer service nila. Makakausap mo mga taong parang sawang sawa na sa trabaho nila. Ang tono ng boses ang nakairita. Sasabihin nila na sila ang tatawag sayo kaya wag ka na tumawag pa kanila. Ang isa pang walang kwenta ay ang procedure nila na maghintay ka pa ng 3 to 4 weeks, samantalang kakabili ko lang 2 days ago. Hindi ko agad binuksan yung gadget ko kasi hindi ako tulad mo na sabik. And hindi para sa akin yun. Pangreregalo ko dapat yun.

    Nabili ko ung Kata Fish Tab 3 ko nung January this year. Now naka encounter na ko ng mga probs nya gaya ng nag freeze sya palagi.. di ko na magamit ngaun kasi twing ino-open ko sya mga 1 min sya ok after nun nag freeze na sya… then off ko nnmn tapos pag on ang tagal at same nnmn sa knina nag freeze sya.. Dahil sa mga nabasa kong comments regarding service center di ko tuloy sure kung dadalhin ko pa ba dun kasi nmn bka pagpasapasahan lang ako at baka di ko na makuha sa tagal ng service nila.. meron po bang nakakaalam mag troubleshoot ng ganung prob.? thanks po

    I am from Bhutan and I bought this flashy tab in February 2014 from SM North EDSA, Philippines and I also made my friend buy this product. But after 5 days of buying it, it started freezing. It freezes all the time. The battery gets drained too quickly and it looks like there is never ending problem associated with this product. I recommend that people should not buy this product merely by looking at it. Since I bought it, I hardly used it as it freezes and the battery gets drained too quickly. My daughter use it as a toy to play now and is a sheer waste of money. SO my sincere advise to all the people is…DO NOT BUY KATA FISH TAB. It is full of sheet!!

    I bought mine last year month of Nov. It started to freeze after a few months. Since its still under warranty i brought it back at the store and they sent it to their service center for repair. After week by week follow up (since they don’t update you with regards to how they escalate the problem), It took around two months to have the unit replaced since parts are not available to repair the unit. Now its working just as it should. Smooth…My only advise is for those who’s using it now..Do not upgrade to the latest firmware!!! It will make your life miserable due to poor customer service should you return it.

    Ang ganda ng kata.d lng kayo marunong gumamit..i rooted my kata t2.i manage to swap my internal sd card to my external sd card..apply some battery saving apps like greenify,and juice defender.i even overclock it to boost cpu performance.using cpu performance control and ram booster app..para pung kotse ang mga gadget.kilangan po yan ng proper maintenance.dapat alam nyo kng ano gawin pag nagloloko na sya.hndi yong puro sakay lng ng sakay.

    Saan po and service center ng kata dito sa manila? Kata fishtab 3 po yan. Pinag awayan ng mga anak ko at ibinato. Still working pa naman although may mga area sa gilid na Hindi na ma touch kailangan mo lang sya ibali baliktad para magamit mo ng maayos. TIA.

    We bought our Kata FishTab 3 a little less than a year ago and the battery just conked out. This is the second time I brought it for repair. In fact, 1 month of the 11 months that we had it was spent having it repaired because of some problem encountered when its OS was automatically updated. So, it was only for 10 months that it was actually in good working condition. Somebody from the repair service called and told me that I need to shell out P1,900.00 (P1,500.00 for the battery and P400 for the service charge) just to replace the battery. And I need to go back first to StarMall and pay the P1,900 before they’ll open the unit and replace the battery. Then, I have to wait again for them to deliver the tablet back to the StarMall outlet. What a RIP OFF! Never ever buy KATA products or products sold by OWTEL!!!

    Battery problem, still within warranty pero nagbayad parin ako dun sa replacemnt ng warrnty! -un pa lang unfair na! Take note 1900 ang battery replacement!

    Binayaran ko na rin para maayos na. After that they said 14-working days ok na ung unit. Guess what, even after dozen of followup from us, its now almost 2 months na nasakanila ung unit namin…. Di pa rin nila ako mabigyan ng tamang date na pwede kong mapickup ung unit! Kada tawag ko,, parating nababago ung date ng pickup!

    Base sa mga nabasa ko, ganito tlga style nila. I hope turuan ng leksyon itong brand na ito.. Tutuloy tuloy ko itong pagcheck sa wall na ito until makuha ko tablet na pinagawa ko… For anyone who’s having the same exp, please contact me. Ireklamo natin to!
