The demand for flip phones is clear. So much so that Motorola has released two new models under the category, the Razr 40 and the 40 Ultra.

Let’s start with the more interesting one, the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra (a.ka Razr 40+ in the US). This one has the biggest cover screen on any flip phone as the 3.6-inch display covered the entire surface with two punch-holes for the main cameras. It uses a premium 10-bit AMOLED panel, with an ultra-smooth 144Hz refresh rate and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection.

Other than showing notifications, widgets, or as a viewfinder when taking selfies from the main cameras, it sports interactive wallpapers and special clock faces to match your style. The screen is so large you can even use it to watch YouTube videos.

The main screen on the inside is a 6.69-inch FHD+ LTPO AMOLED panel with an even smoother 165Hz refresh rate, joined by an HDR10+ support, at 1400 nits. It’s covered by an Ultra-Thin Glass (UTG) for five-layer protection.

It then features a new teardrop hinge, which ensures that there are no gaps when closed. It is also really sturdy thanks to the 7000-series aluminum build. Plus, it’s relatively thin at only 15.1mm when folded, or 6.99mm when open. Motorola also threw in an IP52 water-repellent coating for extra measure.

Under the hood, it is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 octa-core processor. Not the current best, but still powerful enough. It is paired with a 3,800mAh battery with 30W wired charging and 5W wireless charging support.

For the cameras, there’s a 32-megapixel camera on the main display. While on the back, there’s a 12-megapixel main sensor with OIS joined by a 13-megapixel ultra-wide lens that also works for macro shots.

It comes in three colors: Glacier Blue, Infinite Black, and probably the most interesting one, the Viva Magenta, which is actually reminiscent to the original Razr from many years ago.

If you’re budget is limited but still want a clamshell flip phone, then the vanilla Moto Razr 40 offers a decent compromise. This thing has a smaller 1.5-inch cover display, which is still large enough to show notifications or work as a viewfinder for the main cameras. The main display is similar to the Ultra, but switches to a slower 144Hz refresh rate.

One obvious compromise is the midrange Qualcomm Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 processor. Plus, a standard 64-megapixel main camera, but still with OIS. On the upside, it does have a larger 4,200mAh battery with similar charging standards.
