Yesterday, MyPhone treated a number of selected members of the press and media to a fun-filled day at Sky Ranch, Tagaytay which ultimately culminated in the reveal of their latest smartphone for the masses, the Rio Fun. The MyPhone Rio Fun features a 5 inch FWVGA screen, 1.3GHz dual core MT6572 processor by MediaTek, and 512MB RAM. And with its Php2,995 price tag, it’s basically the first time a 5 inch smartphone has managed to come in at Php3k or below.
Of course, there have been a few compromises to the Rio Fun specs to bring it in at such a low price point. For one thing, it only has 512MB ROM, so no doubt you’ll need a micro SD soon after buying the Rio Fun. Also, it only supports up to 2G data speeds. These are a couple of key compromises that make it hard to recommend the Rio Fun without any reservations.
Still, at a price of just Php2,995, it’s a great option for high schoolers and college students (or their parents who’ll be buying it for them) who are looking to save on their first smartphone. The screen is large and spacious, and it runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box. Not a bad pickup for a little less than Php3k.
