Xiaomi’s Redmi A5 4G, one of the cheapest smartphones they make, has officially launched in the Philippines.
The Redmi A5 is powered by a UNISOC T7250 octa-core processor with an option between 3GB and 4GB of RAM and 64GB and 128GB of expandable storage. Xiaomi claims it offers +83% performance improvements over its predecessor and scored 260,000+ in AnTuTu Benchmark.
It also has a virtual RAM expansion feature and will offer a “like-new software experience” for 36 months. The device runs on the efficient Android 15 Go Edition, so don’t expect extensive AI features here.
There’s a 5,200mAh battery with 15W fast charging. Xiaomi claims that the battery can stay healthy even after 1,000 charging cycles. On a single charge, the A5 can apparently last for up to 20.7 hours of video playback and 9.14 hours of gaming.
It comes with a large 6.88-inch HD+ IPS display with a high 120Hz adaptive refresh rate and 240Hz touch sampling rate. It also has TUV Rheinland Low Blue Light, Flicker Free, and Cricadian Friendly certifications. Plus, the screen is usable even if you have wet hands.
An 8-megapixel selfie camera is on the top of the display, while the rear has a 32-megapixel main shooter and an auxiliary lens.
The Redmi A5 3GB/64GB has an SRP of Php3,599 in the Philippines, while the 4GB/128GB comes in at Php4,099. It will be available on Shopee and Lazada on May 20 and in authorized Mi Stores on the 23rd.
