Samsung has a tradition of updating it’s A-series every new year and despite the challenges the company faced last year, it still went ahead with the update to the mid-budget series, announcing the A-series devices at CES 2017 a couple of days back.
In pursuit of an aggressive marketing strategy this year, Samsung has officially launched two of it’s A-series smartphones – Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) and Galaxy A5 (2017) in the Philippines.
Basically, both smartphones saw just a few upgrades in their designs from their 2016 predecessors but the specifications are relatively the same. We’ll take a look at the specs of both smartphones.
Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017)
The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) retains the same 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with Full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels). The device is fired up by a 1.9Gz Octa-core processor backed by 3GB of RAM and 32GB of expandable storage. The storage can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD. The smartphone features a 16-megapixel rear camera with an f/1.9 aperture. There is equally a 16-megapixel front-facing camera with f/1.9 aperture.
The Galaxy A7 (2017) is a dual SIM smartphone and it features connectivity options like 3G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.2, NFC, GPS, A-GPS. The smartphone also packs a fingerprint sensor embedded under the front home button. There is also a 3600mAh battery keeping the lights on, with fast charging support. The Galaxy A7 (2017) also comes with an IP68 certification and runs on Android 6.0 Marshmallow out-of-the-box. The good thing about the OS is that it will get upgrades to Google’s latest operating system whenever Samsung decides to push an upgrade. The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) also uses the USB Type-C port.

Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017)
On its part, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) sports a 5.2-inch Full HD Super AMOLED display. The smartphone is powered by a similar 1.9GHz octa-core chip complemented by 3GB of RAM. There is a 32GB of storage onboard the device and it is also expandable up to 256GB via microSD.
On the camera end, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017) packs a 16-megapixel rear camera with f/1.9 aperture just like the A7 (2017). There is equally a similar 16-megapixel front-facing camera with f/1.9 aperture. The smartphone comes with dual-SIM support and it also features connectivity options like 3G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth v4.2, NFC, GPS, A-GPS, USB Type-C port. There is also a front fingerprint sensor embedded under the home button onboard the device. Providing the interface is the Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS and a compact 3000mAh battery with fast charging support completes the list.

Pricing and Availability
The Samsung Galaxy A7 (2017) carries a price tag of Php 23,990 in the Philpphines while the Galaxy A5 (2017) comes in at a slightly lower price tag of Php 19,990. The Galaxy A7 (2017) and A5 (2017) will be available to buy in stores by next week.
