Flagship phones are getting bigger and bigger. Thankfully, we have brands like Sony, who’s still here creating powerful smartphones for those who want it smaller — the Sony Xperia 5 V.
The Sony Xperia 5 V has a 6.1-inch display, which is noticeably smaller than the usual 6.5-inch screens that most phones have — flagship or not. It uses a FHD+ OLED panel with a 120Hz refresh rate and a tall 21:9 aspect ratio — perfect for watching movies.
Another rare inclusion for a flagship is the 3.5mm headphone jack. If that’s not convenient enough, it does have a stereo speaker setup.
Since it’s a flagship device launched in 2023, it’s powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, with a sensible 8GB of RAM and 128GB of expandable storage.
Another sensible move is dropping the third rear camera. Instead, we’re getting a more capable 48-megapixel 1/1.35-inch sensor. The larger sensor means that it can do 2x of lossless zoom, so there’s no need for a dedicated telephoto lens.
The second one is a 12-megapixel 1/2.5-inch ultra-wide shooter with a 16mm focal length. It also has dual-pixel autofocus. On the front, we have a 12-megapixel 1/2.9-inch sensor for selfies, the same as last year.
Despite its relatively small size, it has a 5,000mAh battery like everyone else. Albeit, it only has 30W charging, which is slower than what most flagships around. Also, it’s sold separately.
It comes in three contrasting colors: Blue, Black, and Platinum Silver. It also works natively with Sony professional cameras if you want to use it as an external viewfinder and more.
The Sony Xperia 5 V will be available in select markets this September for a price of EUR999 (~Php60,900). No word yet if it’s coming to the Philippines.
