Xiaomi just announced its latest flagship devices. There’s the 12S Ultra, but for this one, we’ll be focusing on the Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro.
The Xiaomi 12S and 12S Pro, as well as the 12S Ultra, mark the first partnership between the Chinese tech giant with renowned camera maker Leica.
They may not have the Ultra’s 1-inch sensor, but the 50-megapixel 1/1.8-inch IMX707 shooter on both devices is still nothing short of impressive.
For the Pro model, you’re getting two additional 50-megapixel sensors for the ultra-wide and macro lenses, while the vanilla 12S is only getting a 13-megapixel and a 5-megapixel sensor for each lenses, respectively.
So the question is, where did Leica put its magic on these devices? First, there are the Leica Summicron lenses, then, imaging profiles such as the Leica Authentic Look and Leica Vibrant Look.
Both models can also take 10-bit RAM images that have been calibrated by Adobe Labs. These images will work seamlessly with Adobe Lightroom upon editing.
Besides the cameras, another key difference between the two is the display. The Pro model uses a similar screen to the 12S Ultra. It’s a 6.73-inch E5 LTPO AMOLED panel with a 1Hz-120Hz refresh rate.
The Xiaomi 12S has a smaller and non-LTPO 6.28-inch panel but is still at 120Hz.
They also differ in battery and charging. The Xiaomi 12S Pro comes with a 4,600mAh battery with support for 120W wired and 50W wireless charging. The non-Pro variant settles for a 4,500mAh battery with 67W wired charging, but still at 50W wireless.
All three Xiaomi 12S models will be powered by the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 processors.
The Xiaomi 12S has a price of CNY3,999 (around Php32,800) for the 8GB/128GB variant, CNY4,299 (around Php35,300) for the 8GB/256GB, CNY4,699 (around Php38,600) for the 12GB/256GB, and CNY5,199 (around Php42,700) for the 12GB/512GB.
On the other hand, the Xiaomi 12S Pro is available in 8GB/128GB, 8GB/256GB, 12GB/256GB, and 12GB/512GB variants for CNY4,699 (around Php38,600), CNY4,999 (around Php41,100), CNY5,499 (around Php45,200), and CNY5,899 (around Php48,500), respectively. Let’s hope Xiaomi will release the international version soon.
