OpenAI finally launched its AI-powered search engine called SearchGPT. If it isn’t obvious yet, it aims to compete with giant Google Search.
The SearchGPT by OpenAI is powered by the GPT-4 model family that features real-time summarized information from the internet and links to relevant websites and sources.

It has an interface similar to ChatGPT. You can type whatever you want to search and the AI-powered search service will instantly show you relevant answers. You can then scroll through the summarized answers and tap on the links, or continue your search using follow-up questions.
What makes it special — and what makes it a ChatGPT service — is that it can comprehend contextual prompts so you can easily get more relevant information by asking simple follow-up questions. It shows visual results like images, videos, and even graphs.
To beef up its search results, OpenAI said they are working with third-party partners to help populate its database. Such firms include The Associated Press and The Wall Street Journal. It’s in this area where OpenAI will really have to work hard if they want to take on Google Search.
Currently, SearchGPT is in its prototype testing stage available to 10,000 test users. You can sign up to be included in the waitlist at https://chatgpt.com/search.
