The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) has unveiled Volcano PH Info, a new monitoring app for volcano activity in PH.
Users will receive push notifications on the latest volcanic activities happening, even before updates are posted on social media platforms, thanks to the app’s real-time volcano advisories.
VolcanoPH Info gives users information about active volcanoes in the Philippines, including alert levels, a 24-hour summary, specific monitoring parameters, and recommendations for safety. These data will come from Phivolcs’ Volcano Monitoring Network records and actual surveys conducted by experts.
Monitoring parameters displayed to the user include seismicity and how many volcanic earthquakes were detected, acidity levels and temperatures in the crater, sulfur dioxide being emitted by the volcano, and volcanic plume level.
According to Phivolcs, the app will also offer information on other potential hazards caused by volcanoes, including but not limited to: ground deformation, sinking or swelling of the ground as a result of magma, gas, or fluids moving underneath as well as fault movement.
The VolcanoPH Info mobile is currently available for Android phones, but an iOS app for iPhones and iPads is also being considered.
