Bose has expanded its renowned SoundLink series with the introduction of its largest portable speaker to date, the Bose SoundLink Max. This new device continues Bose’s tradition of delivering impressive audio performance in compact forms.

The Bose SoundLink Max sports a robust appearance, reminiscent of the smaller SoundLink Flex but more muscular. Its design features smoothly curved edges and a sturdy build combining rubber and metal. On top of the speaker, soft-touch buttons are readily accessible. Designed to withstand rough use, the SoundLink Max comes with an IP67 rating, indicating strong water and dust resistance, and it even floats. Despite this, Bose still suggests avoiding use in wet conditions.

A standout feature is the detachable rope handle, which strikes a resemblance to a tote bag, simplifies transporting the 2.1kg speaker. For those looking for added convenience, there’s an optional shoulder strap available for purchase. The SoundLink Max promises up to 20 hours of battery life at 65% volume. Exact battery information wasn’t revealed, but Bose says that it can be fully charged in 5 hours. In addition, the speaker’s USB-C connection can also be used as a charger for other gadgets, doubling as a power bank.

In terms of connectivity, Bose has improved upon previous models by incorporating Bluetooth 5.3, allowing for multipoint connections and supporting Google Fast Pair. The speaker also caters to high-quality audio enthusiasts with aptX Adaptive codec and Snapdragon Sound compatibility, enhancing sound quality and reducing latency. Aside from wireless connectivity, a 3.5 mm aux input ensures wired devices can easily connect without issue.

The Bose SoundLink Max delivers its audio through three active drivers at the front, complemented by two passive radiators to enhance bass output. While powerful bass is expected, the speaker also aims for clear stereo separation, a challenging feat for portable speakers due to physical limitations.
